16 x 20 - Original Oil by Quata Cody, unframed - "Its cliché to say that it is an internal landscape but these really are memories of real places. They are single thoughts and single ideas highly focused and expressed in color. Each image is a spatial archetype easily recognized on a primal level. I studied ancient Japanese tankas and I want each painting to be like a tanka. A single sentence, a single concept a single thought or idea uncrowded and uncomplicated...elegant in its simplicity." - Quata Cody
Quata likens this series of paintings to Tankas.
'In many ways, the tanka resembles the sonnet, certainly in terms of the treatment of the subject. Like the sonnet, the tanka employs a turn, known as a pivotal image, which marks the transition from the examination of an image to the examination of the personal response. This turn is located within the third line, connecting the kami-no-ku, or upper poem, with the shimo-no-ku, or lower poem.' Reference: https://poets.org/glossary/tanka
